Dirty Banana Pants

I went to talk to the Evil Empire yesterday afternoon and it didn’t suck.  In fact, everyone was very nice to me.  Kind of freaky, really.  I spent 2 hours there, talking to 4 different people.  I felt a bit like a broken record, but I kept on playing.  Afterwards I was escorted to the parking lot by the IT recruiter…and not in a “get the hell out of here” way, either.  He told me that I should hear something by the middle of next week. 

I drove home, changed my clothes and headed out the door to pick up the short people and made a quick phone call to the headhunter.  He seemed genuinely impressed that I had spent 2 hours there…also that I had spoken to 4 people.  Apparently if they don’t like you, you don’t get to speak to the 4th person.  Hmmm…..  He told me that he’d call me in a couple of days to give me any feedback.  Whatever.

Today, I’m about to enter a meeting and I noticed my phone ringing…it was the headhunter….  Well, that’s just great, because now I have to run this meeting and ACT like I care when really, deep down, I could give a shit.  All I could think was, what kind of message did he just leave me on my phone?  Maddening.

I finished my meeting and was FINALLY able to check my voicemail….holy Mother.  The headhunter said he had been given positive feedback but needed to ask me a few questions.  BULLOCKS!  Can’t you just ASK the question on the voicemail?  I mean, what the hell kind of questions could he have?  What’s your mother’s maiden name?  What’s your favorite ice cream?  Have you ever danced naked for money?  I called him back and OF COURSE he’s not available so I left him a message to call me….

FINALLY, my phone rings.  The Evil Empire called him.  They asked him what kind of bucks I’m currently pulling down.  Seems like maybe, just maybe they might be thinking about putting an offer together for me.  We shall see.  I did ask him, was it unusual for them to call him back so quickly?  I interviewed from 2:30 - 4:30 and he called me at 11:15 the next day….he said that it was unusual.  Strange.  Very strange.

It still seems a bit odd that they have yanked me around for so many years and now….NOW they actually need me.  I’m not going to hold my breath….
